Starting your vaping journey can feel overwhelming, but we're here to help. Here's what you'll need:
Starter kits typically include a device and charger. There are two main types: pod systems and mod devices. Below, we explain the differences to help you make the right choice.
Pod systems are simple and user-friendly, consisting of two parts: the battery and the pod. Here's a breakdown:
Mods are more advanced and customisable than pod systems. Key components include:
Disposable vapes are pre-filled pod vapes, single-use devices that require no maintenance or refilling. They are ideal for beginners or those who want a hassle-free vaping experience. Once the e-liquid or battery is depleted, the device is discarded.
From June 17, 2025, disposable vapes will no longer be available for distribution, manufacture, sale, or supply.
This ban applies to any vaping device that can’t be reused in any of the following ways:
Pod-style devices that use replaceable, prefilled pods are not included in the ban—you’ll still be able to buy and use these.
This regulatory change takes effect on 17 June 2025. For more details, refer to the Ministry of Health’s official guidance or contact us for clarification.
Nicotine salts are a form of nicotine commonly used in low-powered pod systems. They are available in higher nicotine strengths. They are ideal for low-powered pod systems and provide a quicker nicotine hit.
A pod mod combines the portability of pod systems with the power and customisation of a mod. These devices often feature adjustable settings and use refillable pods for a versatile vaping experience.
The coil is the heating element inside your pod or tank. It vaporises the e-liquid into vapour. Over time, coils degrade and need to be replaced when the flavour diminishes or a burnt taste develops.
The tank is the component of a vape mod that holds the e-liquid and houses the coil. Tanks are often customisable, allowing users to adjust airflow and choose between different coil types for varied vaping experiences.
Batteries power your vaping device. It is essential to use high-quality, vape-specific batteries available on our website. Never use batteries from auto-shops or supermarkets, as they may not meet safety standards. Always charge your batteries using a compatible, high-quality charger to ensure safety and longevity.
E-liquids come in various strengths and sizes. Some products do not contain added sweeteners or colours. For MTL (mouth to lung) devices, start with a 30ml bottle; DTL (direct to lung) devices may require a 60ml bottle for regular use.
Tip: Stock up on at least 2-3 bottles to find your preferred flavours and avoid running out of e-liquid.
Coils are essential for maintaining vapour quality and flavour. Replace your coil or pod when you notice a burnt taste or diminished performance. Check compatibility before purchasing replacement parts. Let the liquid sit for up to 10 minutes before vaping. Even better, add the e-liquid directly to the cotton surrounding the coil to 'prime' the coil as the e-liquid needs to sink into the cotton, ensuring optimal performance.
Make sure not to add too much e-liquid or you will flood the coil; you need just enough to saturate it so it doesn’t burn when you fire it for the first time.
In compliance with New Zealand regulations, vaping devices will automatically time out
after 10 minutes of inactivity. To reactivate your device, press the button or tap the
USB port five times.
